অধ্যাপক কবীর চৌধুরী একজন শিক্ষাবিদ, লেখক, অনুবাদক হিসেবে খ্যাতিলাভ ছাড়াও তিনি অসাম্প্রদায়িক ও মৌলবাদী রাজনীতির বিরুদ্ধে আজন্য সোচ্চার ছিলেন। তিনি শিক্ষাবিদ এবং শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রশাসক হিসেবে বাংলাদেশের ছাত্রসমাজকে বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদে উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে অসাম্প্রদায়িক সমাজ ব্যবস্থা গড়তে শিখিয়েছেন। তিনি প্রশাসক হিসেবে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলিকে আধুনিকীকরণের জন্য প্রচেষ্টা চালিয়েছেন। বাংলা ভাষা, সাহিত্য, শিল্প ও সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ে তিনি বহু মৌলিক প্রবন্ধ রচনা করেছেন। অনুবাদক হিসেবে বিশ্বসাহিত্যকে বাঙালিদের দোরগড়ায় এনেছেন। তেমনই বাংলা সাহিত্যের বেশ কিছু উল্লেখযোগ্য রচনা তিনি ইংরেজি ভাষায় অনুবাদ করে বিশ্বসাহিত্য জগতে বাঙালির সাহিত্যকে পরিচয় করিয়ে দিয়েছেন। অধ্যাপক কবীর চৌধুরী আজন্ম অসাম্প্রদায়িক ও মৌলবাদী রাজনীতির বিরুদ্ধে লিখেছেন, বক্তৃতা দিয়েছেন, মাঠে ময়দানে মিটিং-মিছিলে অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন। ১৯৭১-এ বাংলাদেশের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে হানাদার পাকিস্তানি বাহিনী বাঙালিদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধাপরাধ সংগঠিত করেছিল। এইসব যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচারের জন্যে শহিদজননী জাহানারা ইমামের নেতৃত্বে গঠিত একাত্তরের ঘাতক দালাল নির্মূল কমিটির অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠাতা নেতা ছিলেন অধ্যাপক চৌধুরী। জাহানারা ইমামের মৃত্যুর পর স্পষ্ট নেতৃত্ব শূন্যতা পূরণ করতে এগিয়ে এসেছিলেন অধ্যাপক কবীর চৌধুরী। সুদীর্ঘ ও বৈচিত্র্যময় কর্মজীবনে অধ্যাপক কবীর চৌধুরী শিক্ষা, সাহিত্য, সংস্কৃতি, বিশ্বশান্তি প্রভৃতি সম্পর্কিত আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলনে যোগ দিয়েছেন। এই উপলক্ষে তিনি বিশ্বের বহুদেশ ভ্রমণ করেছেন। বিশ্ববাসীর সাহিত্য, সংস্কৃতি ও সমাজ ব্যবস্থা সম্পর্কে জেনে তিনি তাঁর ছাত্রদেরকে বিশ্বনাগরিক হতে শিখিয়েছেন। বিশ্বশান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠার প্রয়োজনীয়তার উপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেছেন। আমার সৌভাগ্য হয়েছিল অধ্যাপক কবীর চৌধুরীকে আনন্দ মোহন কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ হিসেবে পাওয়া। তিনি আমাকে স্বপ্ন দেখতে শিখিয়েছিলেন। পরবর্তী সময়ে অধ্যাপক চৌধুরীকে খুব কাছ থেকে দেখেছিলাম বিভিন্ন কর্মকাণ্ডে।যুক্তরাষ্ট্রেও তাঁর সান্নিধ্য পেয়েছিলাম। এই মহান শিক্ষাবিদকে খুব কাছে থেকে দেখার যে অভিজ্ঞতা তা লিপিবদ্ধ করেছি এই গ্রন্থে। নতুন প্রজন্মের জন্য অনুকরণীয় এই ক্ষণজন্মা শিক্ষাবিদকে আমরা যেন ভুলে না যাই, তাঁর জীবন থেকে শিক্ষা নিই, এই উদ্দেশ্যেই এই গ্রন্থটি লিখেছি। এ গ্রন্থটি রচনা করতে আমাকে নানাভাবে সাহায্য ও সহযোগিতা করেছেন আমার স্ত্রী ড. জিনাত নবী ও আলোকচিত্র শিল্পী এম এ তাহের। এনআরবি স্কলার্স পাবলিশার্স-এর এম ই চৌধুরী শামীম এই গ্রন্থটি প্রকাশ করে কৃতজ্ঞবোধে আবদ্ধ করেছেন। তাঁদের তিনজনকেই আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ জানাই।
